Going Fearless – Becoming Who You Are

GOING FEARLESS – BECOMING WHO YOU ARE

When we talk about Going Fearless, we are coming to the place where
we move powerfully into our God-given potential.
 It's about:

-Who we are becoming
-Who we are impacting
-What legacy we are leaving

In order to accomplish things we've never done before, we will need to
see ourselves doing so first IN OUR MINDS. Our self-image, including
all of our beliefs and emotions, determines our abilities.

Think about who you are for a moment. There are some parts of your
life that are so ingrained that you don't think anything of them. Perhaps
you are genuinely a people person, and you can talk to any strangers
with joy.

Perhaps you are a math geek, and you love to solve complex problems.

Maybe you are a speaker like me, and the thought of addressing thousands
of people fills you with happiness.

Whatever it is that you love, I guarantee there are other people who are
terrified at the thought of doing that thing.

So where do fear and confidence come from -and how do we become
fearless?  It starts by understanding this…

Your beliefs (whether fearful or loving) are based on your

experiences up till now – AND THE MEANING YOU GAVE THEM.

What did you hear, see, say, do, and believe about it all?

What did you Hear?

As you were growing up, what did you hear about your self –
especially from those whose opinion mattered?

I know a lady whose dad always called her "Fat-ass" even though she
was a slender little cheerleader. She speculates that she's not even
sure her dad knew her real name. He meant to be cute or funny, but
to her it was hurtful and today she struggles mightily with her weight.

What did you See?

If you grew up seeing your parents enjoy a healthy relationship with
each other, and you, than chances are you began with a  a healthy
view of love.

Also, perhaps you saw somebody doing something that inspired you.
Perhaps you experienced a concert, a ball game, a craft show, a
seminar, and you thought "I want to do THAT!"   There is a reason that
this skill inspired you – you resonated with it and found it enjoyable.
That is part of your special wiring – your self-image and your vision.

What did you Say?

It is impossible to say too much about the power of your own words to
determine your reality.  What you say about your self, your situation,
your future, your past – all of it plays into your self-image and your fears
or your confidence.

What Did you Do?

Sometimes you get to try things and you immediately love them. Other
times you tried something and hated it.  Sometimes you find yourself
in a situation that plays into how you view things after that.
For example, when I was little, I was very frightened of the down
escalator at the department store. It seemed like you had to time it
just right or you'd fall down those painful metal stairs. Sure enough, one
day I tumbled all the way down those moving steps. When I got to the
bottom, I was overcome with embarrassment and pain. I wanted to
run out of the store with my big sister who had brought me.

That experience subconsciously showed up later when I was a teenager
learning to snow ski. Skiing was not the problem – the chair lift was!
I've only snow skied 3 times in my life, even though I grew up in
Washington State – and those 3 days were filled with plenty of
falling, freezing and embarrassment. Three of my least favorite activities!

Today I no longer fear falling or embarrassment, but I don't see my
self as a snow -skiier like I see myself as a beach girl. I have never
had a negative experience at any beach ever, all over the world!

You have had your own experiences, which play into your story.

But how to change…

Awareness is the first step to change, so we'll talk about changing
next time.  Just know that even though you can't change the past, you
can change the meaning you give to past events and be exactly
who you were created to be.

For now, just take time questioning your fears by asking,
"when was the first time I remember feeling like this?"

Looking back, you may view the event in a totally different way.

I am in your corner!
