Reach Your Full Potential – Joyfully!

The Problem With Knowing It Already

Some are always coachable

Some are always coachable

Do you know what it takes to truly succeed in your sport,
your life, your business?

Most people think they know. In this information age, it
is not too hard to have a wealth of knowledge. The problem
is that knowing is not doing!

I often refer to the lessons I glean helping elite athletes
master their mindset.  Those who play at the highest
level are always the most coachable.

When I share the same concepts with someone who is
struggling, their reply is often, “I already KNOW that.”

If we know something and don’t do it, than we don’t really
know it. Worse yet, we become deceived into thinking we
are better than we truly are.

When we do something for a short time and then quit, we
often look at the disappointing results and say, “I TRIED that
and it didn’t work.”

The question then is, “Did you stick with it long enough to
truly reap a harvest?”

There is a natural law that says, “Consistent action will
produce consistent results.”

Therefore you will see REAL change when you change what
actions you take every day, especially over time.
This is not a matter of knowing!

I am looking at all the areas of my own life lately to see if
I am ever falling victim to the deception of knowing vs. doing.
This can be a rude awakening to an information junkie.

There are some actions that I am committed to taking – even
when they are boring – monotonous and uninspiring.
The harvest is worth it to me.

How about you?  What knowledge to you need to put into
ACTION?

It’s not about knowing. It’s about doing.

Keep doing what you know to do. Keep taking consistent
action. I will keep standing with you right here…

In your corner,
Gina

Hi Gina… love this post. I agree wholeheartedly that “knowing” is not the same with “doing.” Sometimes I struggle with really wanting to “do” but feeling very distracted or obligated by other responsibilities (kids still need to be fed, laundry needs to be done, etc). I admit that sometimes I make excuses, but other times I think it's that there are only so many hours in the day and I really have to figure out which costs I'm going to pay… for example, am I going to miss my son's baseball game or ignore an opportunity for alone time with my husband, when I know I could use that time to work on my goals and dreams? Sometimes that's too high a price to pay for me. Encouragers like you really inspire me, though, to always challenge my perspectives and ask myself important questions! Thanks for the great post… as always, really appreciate your insights and thought-provoking nuggets of gold. Be blessed!

Oh thank you so much Julie. For too long I sunk myself into acquiring more
knowledge for fear of making a mistake. Now I am willing to learn by doing
and through mentoring. And great news -I make mistakes daily! I've also
lowered the demands I place on my outcomes because my kids and husband were
ready to disown the stressed out me.
Bless you and the great work you are doing.

Someone you and I both know (but who shall remain anonymous!) has called it “mindnumbing consistency” and it's true. Those of us who are solopreneurs are by nature attracted to the “bright, shiny objects” and are constantly looking for the next exciting thing. Unfortunately that is not the way to success.

Most of us already have the knowledge…we just aren't doing; which is the crux of the matter. Once we figure out WHY we aren't doing what we should be doing, (which boils down to self awareness!) it's then that we can start getting on with it:-)

Great post and thought provoking post dear one!

Hey Gina! Great post – and a good reminder to check myself when advice is given. I may know it, I may have heard it – but I may not have done it, or done it to the degree that it takes to be successful.

When you're done learning, YOU'RE done!

Hello Gina! Great post; short, sweet and to the point! Knowing how to succeed may not be hard, but consistently, day after day doing what it takes; that can be a challenge. Especially when you are not seeing the results immediately! Each small step can bring you closer to your goals; as long as you keep moving forward!

    Thanks for the reminders!

Oooooooh, really enjoyed this post Gina. Rick Warren often refers to this as “sitting, soaking and souring.” With the abundance of information and easy availability to training calls and programs, it's easier than ever to over do it –while not actually putting anything into practice. Thank you for this concise, and poignant reminder Gina.

This reminds me of the saying “it's what you learn after you know it all that counts”. This issue of knowing it already has a little history with me :) so thanks for the reminder! I've had to get real with myself on more than a few issues where my life doesn't really show what I claim I know and I've labeled that difference my integrity gap (sounds better that hypocrite gap!)
I almost don't want to know more until my “show” catches up with my “know”. Reminders like this are valuable. Thanks again, J

I know it, J! In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill says to write on your mirror the words, “Tell the world what you intend to do, but show them first.” LOL I'm with you all the way!

Thanks for stopping by, Rochelle! You are good at walking out what you know. I love having you in my corner!
